Remanufacturing is Our Business

D&W is a leader in remanufacturing diesel engine components such as starters, alternators, DC motors, turbochargers, diesel fuel injection pumps, injectors, and fan clutches, as well as a variety of tank truck and industrial equipment such as blowers, vacuum pumps, rotary air locks, gear boxes and some liquid pumps.

Our facility in Auburn NY provides remanufacturing services for customers ranging from global equipment manufacturers to regional equipment distributors to local farmers and contractors. D&W can remanufacture one item for an individual or provide a complete program including product remanufacturing, establishing program policies and procedures, core management, package design, and distribution.

What is Remanufacturing?

Remanufacturing is a process by which a failed component is restored to “like new” condition.

First, the failed unit is completely disassembled. Some parts such as bearings, seals, gaskets, o-rings and other wear items that will be automatically replaced are discarded.

The remaining parts are then thoroughly cleaned using a variety of sophisticated cleaning machinery to remove all grit, dirt, rust, paint and scale.

Once the cleaning process is complete, reusable parts such as housings, gears, rotors, etc. are evaluated through a variety of inspection and testing procedures. Parts not meeting specification are then reclaimed or replaced.

Next, the unit is reassembled according to the original manufacturer’s specifications using a combination of the reclaimed and new parts.

The unit is inspected and, in most cases, dynamically tested to ensure all settings and performance standards are adhered to.

The unit is painted and labeled for clear identification.

Finally, the unit is packaged for protection in handling and shipping.

The warranty on remanufactured units is typically the same as is offered on new replacement units.

Why Choose Remanufactured?

D&W remanufactures its products to strict quality standards established by original equipment manufacturers or remanufacturing industry “best practice”. Our adherence to these standards results in quality remanufactured parts with nearly the same life expectancy as new replacement parts.

Remanufacturing also benefits the environment:

“The rebuilding industry helps contribute in three ways to the environment. Because parts are kept out of the resmelting process longer, millions of barrels of oil or comparable forms of energy are saved annually. The rebuilder gives a product numerous lives instead of just one, thus conserving energy. Secondly, there are millions of tons of natural resources such as iron, aluminum, copper, etc. saved annually because we give products new life. And, thirdly, landfills are spared from the dumping of millions of tons of this metal annually because the industry puts a monetary value (core charge) on that part so that is comes back to be rebuilt.”

-February 1991 William Gager, APRA (Automotive Parts Rebuilders Association) Executive Vice President

In addition to the quality and environmental benefits of remanufacturing, there are significant financial benefits. Remanufactured products can provide cost savings of 20% to 60% compared to the cost of new.

It’s no wonder that many of today’s leading manufacturers are providing a remanufactured product option to their customers.

If you are environmentally conscious, and are looking for affordable quality solutions to keep your equipment performing at its best, consider remanufactured products. If you are looking for remanufacturing services, whether you have one failed component on a piece of your personal equipment or you are looking for help in designing and implementing a complete remanufacturing program for your company, call D&W.
